St. Clare Icon Blessing

icons written through the hand of Kathy Sievers

I attended a blessing of 2 beautiful icons this past weekend in Portland.  It was a very prayerful experience.  The icons were donated to St. Clare’s by a parish family, as a memorial to a loved one.    The blessing was held in the middle of Mass, and the icons were prayed over, sprinkled with holy water, and blessed with the sign of the cross.  It was a joyous celebration for the  community.

The icons are quite large, and glow with radiant warm color.  There is an atmosphere of reverence, harmony and quiet about them.  Depicted are St. Clare, the patron saint of the parish, and St. Francis of Assisi.

The iconographer, Kathy Sievers, has been my teacher for many years.    I greatly admire her work.  To see more of her icons, you can go to
